Board Nominations

Our community is loved and led by 14 community leaders—our Advisory Board—who are responsible for our strategic direction and business affairs. Each spring, we fill open board seats through the process of nomination. We invite you to nominate someone (perhaps yourself) who has the capacity, competency, character, and commitment to help take our story further. We don’t have many prerequisites for nominations, but there are three we want to be clear about:

Prerequisites for Nomination

  1. Nominees must be a member (or become a member), and thus commit to the Four Is that ensure the health, well-being, and wholeness of our community.

  2. Nominees must affirm our values

  3. Ours is a working board; nominees must commit to a three-year term and be willing to offer this community their presence (at events and gatherings, weekly worship, monthly board meetings) and leadership (in one of four key areas/subcommittees). We’re not looking for warm bodies—we need doers.

All nominations are welcomed but know that one of our prioritized aims is to have a diversity of people around the table, representative of the diversity of the people in our community. We take seriously the work of inclusivity, and that starts in the places decisions are made.

Board FAQs

What is the board? Who is on it? What do they do?

Can anyone nominate anyone else?

Anyone in the community can make a nomination, but it is not an anonymous process. Because of the time commitment that comes with this working board, please make sure you’ve spoken to the person before nominating them. When you make your nomination, you’ll be asked to select in which of the four key areas/subcommittees that person would best lead.

How are the new board members chosen from the nominees?

All nominees are interviewed by the current board in March with the current needs in mind (for example, if someone on the Faith Formation subcommittee is finishing their term, then someone with expertise in that particular area is needed). Nominees are interviewed by current board members prior to the monthly meeting on Monday, April 8. New board members are elected to a three-year term by the current board in a blind vote that same night. New board members are welcomed at the annual meeting in May and begin attending monthly board meetings in June.

I have more questions; who do I ask?

Our goal is for full transparency in the nomination process; we never want it to feel mysterious or secretive. We want our board members to be a known presence in our community. Questions about this process can be directed to current president Molly Hough.
