Thank you for helping behind the scenes!

Here’s what you need to know:

Communion Servers

Before service:

  • The ziploc bag of bread is stored in the downstairs kitchen fridge/freezer. That space is usually locked; please ask a staff member to open the door with their code. If you grab the last bag in the freezer, please tell Patti Kratzer!

  • The bread trays (2) and wine cups (3) are stored in the peninsula island directly across from the kitchenette sink.

  • The grape juice bottles are kept in the mini fridge in the kitchenette; if you grab the last bottle, please tell Patti Kratzer! Fill each chalice about half- to three-quarters of the way. If kids are serving, use less juice :)

  • Please wash your hands before handling the bread. Divide the bread between the two trays. It’s okay if it’s frozen; it will thaw in time! The heel of the loaf pairs with the small wine cup.

  • Carry the trays and cups into the Sanctuary. The heel of the loaf and the empty juice cup go on the folding table on the stage for Words of Institution. One tray and filled cup go on the communion table in the front. The other tray and filled cup go on the high top table in the back.

During service:

  • Toward the end of the Lord’s Prayer, go to your station. The person holding the bread tray stands closest to the window/door and repeats, “The body of Christ, given for you.” The person holding the juice repeats “The blood of Christ, shed for you.” Use the person’s name if you know it.

  • If someone eats their bread before dipping or tries to drink from the cup, try saying: “I’m going to have you take another piece of bread and dip it.” Folks inevitably feel embarrassed, so smile and tell them it’s no big deal, etc.

  • After everyone has gone through your line, serve each other. Back station: please serve the folks in the sound booth.

  • Bring the tray and cup to the kitchenette sink when you’re done.

After service:

  • Grab the heel and empty cup from the table on the stage.

  • Toss the heel and any remaining bread pieces. Pour out the juice.

  • Wash the cups and trays and return them to cabinet.

THANK YOU!

Greeters

Arrive about 9:25am to set up signage (remember 3-2-1 and see photos below):

  • 3 sandwich boards. Stored inside the side entrances. Arrow signs sit at the top of the outside stairs in front of the doors. The parking sign is set up next to the stop sign on the corner.

  • 2 yard signs. Stored behind the right Sanctuary door, set up in the grass on either side of the outside stairs.

  • 1 retractable sign. Stored in front of the left Sanctuary door, set up in front of the Fabric office door.

2 sandwich boards tucked into the North entrance.

1 arrow sandwich board stored in the South entrance.

2 yard signs behind the Right Sanctuary door

1 retractable sign in front of the Left Sanctuary door

About 9:30am, after signage is up, circle up with all the greeters, pray for the morning, choose places to stand:

  • 1 greeter stands outside

  • 1 greeter stands at the top of the stairs near the Fabric Church office door, directing families to check-in.

  • 1 greeter stands near the Welcome table in the back of the Sanctuary, encouraging folks to find a seat to keep that area from getting congested.

As people begin to arrive (as early as 9:40 - visitors come early!):

  • Greet folks by name if possible. If it’s a friend and they want to chat, kindly move them along: tell them you’ll catch them after service, ask them to save you a seat, etc.

  • If they’re visiting, welcome them warmly, ask how they heard about us, introduce them to a fellow greeter or staff, etc. You can direct them to the Welcome table for a visitor postcard packet. If they have kids, walk them to the check-in (follow the green/pink floor tape!) with Caitlin + team upstairs.

  • Come join worship during the second song or when people stop trickling in.

  • Before you go inside, designate a “Goodbyer” - one greeter who returns to the outside stairs at the end of the service to say goodbye to folks as they leave, answer questions (or refer to a staff member), etc.

During worship:

  • Keep an eye out for any of the new visitors you met. Try to greet them if possible or introduce them to someone else in the community.

After worship:

  • The “Goodbyer” should position themselves near the front doors. Visitors tend to leave right away, so it’s nice to have one more touchpoint: “Thanks for coming!” “Have a great week!” If they linger, they might have questions or want to talk to a staff member - you can offer to make that connection.

  • Bring signage inside/to their storage places.

THANK YOU!
