Every August, we work with our actual neighbor (we share the building!) The Park Place to get backpacks and school supplies to Latine kids in the Powderhorn neighborhood.
Here’s how it works: you donate a new backpack stuffed with a $20 (for supplies). They host a Back to School Bash for families to purchase backpacks and school supplies at a greatly reduced cost. This approach maintains dignity for all involved.
Notes on backpacks:
new, unused backpacks
for younger students, choose cartoons/characters/playful designs
for older students, choose high-quality brands like Jansport, Columbia, Wildkin (we heard Costco’s got Nike backpacks for $25!)
Stuff each backpack with $20 cash or check made out to The Park Place
We will collect backpacks on August 3, 10, 17.
New this year: Volunteering!
Can’t donate a backpack? Volunteers are also needed to help organize the backpacks and set up the week leading up to the Back to School Bash on August 23. Please connect directly with Becca below - Spanish fluency is not necessary!
